The Lion, Priorslee Going from strength to strength!

The Lion at Priorslee has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months and becoming more popular by the day, with more seating areas, an outdoor bar, regular live music and sports there is every reason to visit, however what makes it more special is its food.

Offering a good varied lunch menu that I often stop by for, and a new chef in place I decided to check out their new menu with an old friend. Arriving at 6pm on a Friday the Lion was already buzzing with atmosphere and people enjoying a drink, we took a seat in the window and looked through the well-presented new menu.

There is a good range of starters on offer with the Charcuteie of cured meats catching both our eyes, so we opted to share. A large wooden board of already buttered bread, three types of Spanish cured meats, a chunk of pate, pots of olives and another pot of onion chutney all garnished with salad. A real stunning platter of quality ingredients and more than enough for two. All the meats were superb, tasted authentic and were truly delicious, especially the parma ham which was so succulent, the pate was smooth and complimented the onion chutney perfectly. We both thoroughly enjoyed the starter and would make a great sharer if you just wanted a few drinks and a nibble with friends.

Onto mains, there is a good selection of your pub classics a range of steaks, burgers, fish and salads, there is also a new create your own pizza section too. Craig was quick to choose a steak and as he was trying to eat healthy he went for the 7oz fillet cooked medium with sweet potato fries and salad, I really toyed between the gammon steak, cod and chips and the create your own pizza, eventually opting for the cod and chips, it was Friday after all!

As we relaxed waiting for our mains to arrive the place just got busier with a range of people from workers having a pint after work, couples enjoying a drink to friends laughing, its so good to see a local pub thriving, manager Darren and his team should really be proud of what they have achieved.

The mains arrived and were presented fantastically, Craig’s steak was just a thick chunk of meat topped with a cooked tomato, a net of sweet potato fries, button mushrooms, a pot of fresh salad and a jug of peppercorn sauce, you would think you were in a swanky restaurant it looked that good. Everything was perfect, the steak was cooked to perfection the fries were crunchy and soft inside and each ingredient complimenting the other, I had to try some of the steak and it was really tasty, Id been to Miller and Carter a few days before and I must say this was far better in presentation, taste and value.

My battered cod and chips was a very healthy sized portion, laid out on grease proof paper the chips were proper chips, the cod was a thick juicy piece well battered and came with a lemon slice, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Enjoying every mouthful, I was soon defeated. As pub fish and chips go this was definitely top of my list and highly recommend to anyone with a large appetite. However, as we were eating our mains, I did notice a near by diner having the pizza and it looked incredible, so I will be back to try that next time.

Debating a dessert, just like the starter we decided to share, always nice to end with something sweet, the white chocolate cheesecake topped with strawberries was our choice and wow was it a good one! The creamiest cheesecake on a beautiful base, I’m not lying when I say it’s the best cheesecake Ive ever tasted, just incredible, I think we both regretted sharing, but we were very full, so it was just the right amount.

We left as the Lion was getting very busy ready for the evening’s entertainment. I can’t wait to return to try the pizza and they also do themed evenings so keep up to date on Facebook for the latest news and make sure you visit them soon.
